About the Captain

Captain Dan

For as long as I can remember I loved the water – sailing, boating, and swimming whenever I got the opportunity. I was always happiest when on the water.

Being born into a military family of nine I enlisted in the submarine division of the U.S. Navy where I spent six years serving my country. After departing the military, I found that I had a fair amount of talent in the sport of golf and spent a short couple of years being a professional caddie.

I managed several known restaurants throughout the United States, then came the call to come to the Caribbean to an island called Puerto Rico! I managed a successful restaurant for years but I had something missing in my life, and that was my passion for the sea!

Oddly, even at the same time, I realized what was missing in my life I met a gentleman who operated a watersport company on the east side of Puerto Rico, my life was reborn. This was my calling to be back on the water and “go sailing!”

I had “the sailing bug” again and I bought the “Erin Go Bragh” a 50-ft. sailboat and together with my other boat, the “Tanto Amor,” ran a very successful sailing and snorkeling company in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, but in an instant everything changed… Maria, a Category 5 Hurricane destroyed both of the boats, it was devastating and I felt lost. My home, my business, and Puerto Rico had been destroyed. Friends and employees had all lost something in this disaster and it made me more determined than ever to find a solution.

I am now the proud owner of the “Nathaniel Bowditch” and life is good and the anticipation of being back on the water doing what I love is amazing. Will I return to Puerto Rico? Absolutely, that’s my home and where my heart is. I want to make a difference and put my employees back to work, they are my family and we need to be together.

Please come and sail with us this 2018 season in Destin, Florida! I look forward to sailing with you and making new friends.

My thanks goes out to Captain Rex, his wife Kristy, and family for making this possible, welcoming me into their sailing family and showing me the ropes (quite literally). I will be eternally grateful.

I found my place in life again. My home! Come join me!

“May the sun warm your soul and the wind fill your sails toward your sunset!”

Your sailing buddy,

Captain Dan
